Three Air Conditioning Myths For Florida Homeowners
The air conditioning technicians from Symbiont Service in Englewood, Florida hear so many air conditioning myths that they want to share them here and bust those that need it! They discuss three air conditioning myths for Florida homeowners that you need to know.
We know that every homeowner wants to make his or her home as energy-efficient as possible. Saving money on the cost of air conditioning can help put more money back into your wallet. The cost of electricity may force some homeowners to not run the air conditioner as often as they should and to even not turn it to a level that is comfortable and safe.
In an effort to save money, some Florida homeowners use inefficient and ineffective ways to save money on their utility costs. We want to help you save money and to keep your house comfortable this summer.
Three Air Conditioning Myths For Florida Homeowners
- Coming home and turning the thermostat to the coldest level as soon as they walk in the door. When you walk into a hot room and turn the thermostat down to extreme levels you believe it will cool more quickly – chances are it won’t. Setting the thermostat lower or higher won’t influence how quickly your home cools. When you turn the thermostat down to extremes, you’re wasting energy, not saving money. Turn the thermostat to your typical temperature – the one you consider ideal – and let the HVAC do its job.
- Opening and closing the doors. Should you keep the doors open or closed in the rooms you’re not using? Some people believe that if you open all the doors, the cooled air will quickly cool all of them. Other people believe that if the doors are closed, the area in which you’re living or spending time in will become cooler quicker. If you have zoned heating or cooling you can ensure the rooms in which you’re spending time are cooled.
- Running the ceiling fan to cool the room. The fan won’t change the temperature, but it will circulate the cooled air. If you’re running the fan in a room that no one is in, you’re not doing your utility bills any favors. If you’re in a room and want to be cooled down, then by all means turn on the ceiling fan. The cooled, circulated air will make contact with your skin and you will feel more comfortable and cooler.
