How Clean Is The Air You’re Breathing?
How clean is the air you’re breathing? Clean indoor air is safer indoor air and that is more important than ever during this time of coronavirus and the quarantine the country is dealing with.
It’s best to not assume the air in your home is safe. You also can’t know how safe and clean the air you’re breathing at work or in a shopping center or grocery store is. The air in our homes may contain unhealthy particles, bacteria and pollutants.
Our geothermal and air conditioning professionals understand that our customers — commercial and private homeowners — want to improve the air they breathe and we have put together a short checklist of ways to help ensure you’re breathing the cleanest air possible.
You can clean the air you breathe by investing in an electronic air cleaner. These devices are easy-to-use and maintain, reliable and effective. An electronic air cleaner may also save you money on HVAC system maintenance and repair because they pull pollutants from the air and that might keep the air filter cleaner, longer.
How Clean Is The Air You’re Breathing?
What is an electronic air cleaner? It is a device that pulls in airborne pollutants, traps them and cleans the air you breathe. There are two basic types of air purifiers.
- An electrostatic purifier or precipitator that features an ionizing device and collection plates. When the electrostatic purifier is in action it will draw in pollutants, feeds them an electrical charge and those charged pollutants and particles are sent to the collection plates that hold an opposite charge to clear the particles.
- An ionizer, or ion generator, pushes charged ions into the air in your home or commercial space. The ions that are released into the air, connect with airborne pollutants that cause the particles to fall and stick to furniture, walls, curtains and other fabrics where they can be easily vacuumed or dusted up and off the furniture. An ionizer is one of the most basic cleaner and can be found in portable models which make them ideal for travel or even camping.
If you’d like a device that is more permanent, talk with one of our geothermal professionals about having an electronic air cleaner installed directly into the home or office’s HVAC system.
Keep in mind that the air purifier is capable of capturing up to 99% of all airborne pollutants. An air purifier will not eliminate gases and odors in the house. An air purifier uses a high voltage to operate and this means it can produce ozone. If your home or office has low levels of ozone it can interact and react with furniture polish, air fresheners, paint and household or office cleaning products and cause unhealthy byproducts. If an individual in the home or office has sensitivities this could be a potential health issue.
