Coronavirus And Your Indoor Air Quality
Like much of the rest of the country, Florida home and business owners are in a state of quarantine and social distancing because of #coronavirus (COVID-19) If you’re wondering about coronavirus and your indoor air quality, we want to offer some insight.
Because the professionals at Symbiont Air Conditioning are considered essential employees we are fielding calls all the time about coronavirus and its impacts on our health because so many of us are confined to their homes.
Will the air filter in the HVAC unit trap and kill coronavirus? Here is what we know.
Coronavirus And Your Indoor Air Quality
What Is COVID-19/Coronavirus?
The CDC explains, “coronavirus is a respiratory illness spread from person to person… symptoms can feel like the individual has a cold or the flu.” The difference in COVID-19 is that it impacts the individuals’ lungs and causes:
- Shortness of breath
- Fever
- Cough
To combat the spread the CDC urges everyone to:
- Stay home – practice social distancing
- Avoid crowds
- Stay at least six feet away from another individual
- Wash your hands frequently
- Get tested if you have symptoms or feel you’ve been exposed
If you have an air purifier in your home, and many allergy sufferers do, the unit will draw the air in, filter it, then release it back — cleaner — into our homes. Look for an air purifier with a HEPA filter because those filters trap up to 99% of airborne pollutants including pet dander, mold and pollen.
Will your air filter protect you from coronavirus?
The benefit of using an air purifier to trap coronaviruses is not yet known. The reason is that COVID-19 which is the coronavirus strain prevalent right now is so minuscule that it’s difficult for an air purifier to trap.
