Protect Your Home From Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide poisoning is an insidious intruder into a home. When your home is closed up for the season and the furnace is running carbon monoxide fumes can be leaked out, especially if you haven’t had the furnace inspected. Protect your home from carbon monoxide and yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning by having your air conditioning and heating unit inspected.
You will also want to install carbon monoxide detectors as well as smoke and fire detectors in your home to keep everyone safe.
Protect Your Home From Carbon Monoxide
This is a topic about which we can truly say is a life-and-death situation if left unaddressed.
What is carbon monoxide?
This gas is a byproduct of fuel that has been “spent.” This gas can leak into your house if there is a crack in the furnace’s heat exchanger and is more prevalent and deadly in the winter when all of the windows are closed and you’re indoors more often.
Here are some reasons carbon monoxide is so deadly:
- You can’t smell it or see it
- It can kill in a matter of minutes
- A build-up of it in your system can lead to illnesses you can’t explain because it mimics other illnesses including chronic fatigue syndrome, viral infections or even the flu
How can you protect yourself and your family?
- Have your HVAC unit inspected at least twice a year — at the beginning of the heating season and again at cooling season
- Have working carbon monoxide detectors installed. Test them regularly.
- If the detector goes off, leave the house immediately and call 9-1-1 from a safe location.
If you have any questions on the safety of your HVAC unit, give our air conditioning professionals a call today. We can inspect your air conditioning and heating unit and let you know whether it’s in good operating condition or if it needs maintenance.
