How Florida Homeowners Can Slash Cooling Costs
Other than turning the thermostat up on your air conditioner and sitting in a too-hot house, are there ways you can save on your air conditioning bills? The professionals from Symbiont Air Conditioning have tips on how Florida homeowners can slash cooling costs — and it’s easier than you think!
In addition to the heat, Englewood, Florida residents are battered with humidity and that is what really amps up the sweltering temperatures. If you want to stay cool and enjoy summer we have some tips to help you save money on your air conditioning bills.
How Florida Homeowners Can Slash Cooling Costs
- Have the A/C unit inspected and maintained regularly. At least twice a year call on an air conditioning professional to come and inspect the unit to assure it’s operating at peak efficiency.
- Clean or change the filters. If the filters are clogged, not only are you breathing in dirty air, but you’re making the air conditioner work harder than it has too and without working efficiently.
- Turn it up a degree or two. You may not notice a slight increase in the temperature. It’s like lowering the temperature in the hot tub a degree or two — no one notices, and it can save money.
- Programmable thermostats are money-savers. When you install a programmable thermostat you can set it and forget it. The thermostat will turn on and off at specified times and that can save money on having it run all day when no one is home. You can program it to turn on before you get home so the house is cool and welcoming.
- Keep the blinds and curtains closed in the hottest parts of the day and keep the sun from heating up the house. Open the blinds and open the curtains when the sun goes down. Also, make sure the thermostat isn’t in direct line of the sunlight.
- How well insulated is your home? If there are air leaks around the windows or if the roof and walls aren’t well insulated, cooled air will escape. Call an insulation pro to inspect the amount of insulation in your home.
- Plant trees outside west and south facing windows to help keep the house cooler in the heat of the summer day.
