Sounds You Don’t Want To Hear From The A/C Unit
Just as “no news is good news” not hearing any sounds emanating from your air conditioner is just what you want. Sounds you don’t want to hear from the A/C unit are anything that seem out of the ordinary. If, for example, you’ve never noticed it running, but know it is simply because your home is cool and comfortable and now you hear a sound… give us a call.
When it comes to your air conditioning unit, the professionals from Symbiont Air Conditioning urge you to give them a call if you notice any of the following noises.
Sounds You Don’t Want To Hear From The A/C Unit
- Squealing. When you hear the motor squeal or screech when it turns on, this is a red flag. Turn the unit off and give us a call immediately. In many cases this noise is an indication that the belt is wearing out. A belt is an easy and relatively inexpensive repair, but you don’t want to run the unit until the belt breaks. Another cause for screeching or squealing could be that the unit needs to be lubricated and/or sealed.
- Thumping. If you hear a thumping sound from inside the unit when the blower motor is running, that could mean something is stuck in the blades. Another cause for the thumping sound could be there is something lodged in the housing of the blower and it’s hitting it when the blades turn. This could lead to the motor struggling to operate and could lead to the motor burning out.
- Rattling or banging. Again, these types of noise could be something simple like debris having fallen into the unit or it could be because the motor or blower assembly is loosening. This is an issue, like the others, that needs to be addressed as soon as you notice the noise. If it’s happening because of a loose part, that component could come loose and fall into the motor assembly and lead to the motor burning out.
Some noises are worse than others when you hear them in and around the air conditioning unit, but all noises — especially those out of the ordinary — should be checked as soon as you notice it. Don’t wait until the unit fails and the repair costs more than it originally could have.
